For ages I have been enjoying Japanese cooking … sometimes I cook myself … I’ve already celebrated menus of 10 courses for really good friends and I served them in a genuine Tatami-room. In Berlin there has been up to now only one constant institution for genuine Japanese cuisine. Not only genuine but also constantly of high quality and unbelievably much variety: the UGADAWA, Feuerbachstr., is a family restaurant in Berlin with extraordinary good Japanese cuisine. Today this institution has been beaten for the first time. And if I say ‘beaten’, I mean it this way… DOS PALILLOS in the Casa Camper Hotel, Weinmeisterstr., Berlin-Mitte, served something I have never eaten before.

The concept of DOS PALILLOS is a mixture of Spanish tapas culture with Asian Japanese cuisine. Every single dish was celebrated and served with short anecdotes as well as artistically composed in front of me. The restaurant has got four tables which shouldn’t be the guest’s destination. The place to be is the bar where the tapas are served in a very pleasant way. Let’s talk about the food itself. You can choose between two menus. Nothing more. And that’s all right this way. You get a menu of 12 or 16 courses which are served in small morsels one after the other. The session of taste explosions was opened by caramel walnuts, which had been rolled in seven different Chinese spices … a promising start!

The following verged on a phenomenal caress of all senses of taste that I ‘ve cultivated with loving care all over the years …from Japanese sea-devil liver, which had been deliciously steamed and marinaded in Sake, to Sunomono, a Japanese salad with pickled sardines, up to a Japanese mini-burger, which exceeds of course everything being offered by worldwide fast food companies.

All this and much more was convincing me that way that I choose DOS PALILLOS the most exciting Japanese cuisine of Berlin. If anybody can object to my choice I ask you to do so here and now. The restaurant in the Casa Camper Hotel is distinguished by the concept of DOS PALILLOS as well as its skilfulness of creating meals by using the best ingredients. Of course you have to pay the price for this high-quality cooking, but everyone taking care at least of a little inside beauty, knows that it is useful to invest there *lol* … as beauty always comes from the inside.

And whoever thinks that I push my favourite Japanese restaurant into second place in passing is mistaken there! Because ruling a big nation is like cooking small fish … *lol* … The whole restaurant is acting according to the wise saying of the Chinese philosopher Laotse …

or: inordinately large doesn’t prevent from a little criticism

It was my high expectation and a report on Berlin’s best radio station – radioeins – that drove me to “Tauro”. The Bassy Cowboyclub with its events had already seen me for umpteen times, but do you think I had noticed this inordinately large restaurant? No, unfortunately not! A radio station had to draw my attention on it! From the outside it’s somehow unspectacular. But when you step in, it is really big and wonderful. This evening it seemed a little empty, because only 7 per cent of the 400 seats were occupied. But the gigantic tapas bar on the ground floor was so inviting that you could overlook the emptiness. Finally we didn’t want to miss the barbecue specialities, because those are grilled with a unique infra-red gas grill. Therefore we had to go to the really impressing first floor.

The seats in den “Fireplace Room” seemed somehow to be ordered. On the one hand you were in good company, on the other hand there was a wonderful fire that invited you for more. The waitress informed us that they were short of guests but that they were thinking positively. I mean … they do have established an unbelievable basis. Ambience wherever you look… nevertheless, I’m not quite sure if this large room filled by people won’t be like a huge canteen. The noise could be killing… but that is all merely speculation. However, it was a relaxing atmosphere and we were looking forward to the meal. Unfortunately, our kind waitress forgot to serve at least the traditional appetizing bread… ok, we got over it!

Then the starters were served. Yes, the tapas were great. But a small minus, because VAPIANO’S tomato sandwiches are definitely more delicious – fresh filling and warm bread. However, the rest was wonderful. I especially recommend Jacob’s mussels. The following main course was not top-quality; my meal was ok (yes, I know, ok is the little sister of shit!), but the so-called barbecue plate for my companion was not. It’s a challenge to prepare the meat between dry and raw, but it’s possible. This evening the fantastic infra-red grill didn’t manage that. In return for this I have to mention the super delicious chips and of course the really good steak. To sum up this impressing restaurant in the Schönhauser Allee, my assessment is contradictory: In fact I was impressed by the ambience and therefore I was just about to praise this place, but then I had to call me off… Sorry, I must mention it. Nevertheless, you can still enjoy your visit there and maybe it was only one of its bad days!

So, enjoy your meal and be amazed at the wonderful architecture while eating and drinking …

My first impression at Kori & Fay Asian Fine Dining was clean and straight … If you look around you can see orange and brown interior in the whole restaurant. The second impression you get is the noise. The wonderful brawling of water attands you the whole visit. I really love that…. a big wall of water on the left of the mainroom with a small buddha statue full of orchids…. but you can forget all the nice ambient if the meal is bad.

As the title say….at Kori & Fay you get all the wonderful asian fine dining you need. i started with HORS D´OUEVRE „KORI & FAY2“ …. a great choice of seafood… very tasty and fresh. After the Starter i orderd “Grilled Prawns with a special Kori and Fay sauce” … very good.. but it could be a little bit more… just one or two …. Last but not least .. i choose Original American Brownie with chocolate ice, baileys irish cream and fresh orange

The result of this visit… 9 of 10 points! Why nine and not 10? .. ’cause they located in my old favourite cinema and after closing the lovely hollywood cinema i missed it really. Now the restaurant is directly where i see many good movies…. but its definitely a good replacement.

Facts: Restaurant ”KORI & FAY” | Kurfürstendamm 65 | 10707 Berlin | Tel: 030/ 887 14 885 | Fax: 030/ 887 14 387 | Email: info@koriandfay.de | U-Station: Adenauerplatz | Busstop Olivaer Platz M19, M29, 109, 110, X10

No another mistake of this report, there is one of their dishes that beats everything in the restaurant. Try the wonderful BENTO-Box with a daily mixed selection of all the fine warm and cold food of Japan for just 9 EUR. Enjoy this Bento box with a nice view from the 4th floor of the Galleria with a cup of tea for free or get this box to take away (much more better than every fast food you can get).

Do you like Sushi? No?.. no problem. Kushinoya, europe’s first Kushige Restaurant, is the perfect choice for all people who don’t like uncooked fish but really want to try the japanese kitchen. Personally i like fresh Sushi but i love Kushinoya where you can get the one and only KUSHIAGE Food. Kushiage is Japanese-style deep-fried fish, seafood, vegetables or meat. “KUSHI” means skewers usually Bamboo sticks and “AGE” means deep-frying in Japanese. Its perfect served step by step, arranged on a very stylish place setting.

Every kind of food has got a special dipping sauce, but i don’t have to explain it now.. you will get the best explanation by the perfect staff of Kushinoya. And if you need a proper drink – you have to try one of the biggest SAKE rice wine selection i could find in Berlin till now. Ifyou are sceptical because “deep-fried” in europe means extremely lardy – believe me… it’s NOT.

Facts: Kushinoya, Bleibtreustr. 6, 10623 Berlin, you have to reserve a table!! (030) 318 098 97

When I was a child (a million years ago) I stayed in the french part of switzerland three times – on a wonderful old farm between the mountains covered with snow. Today I remember just two or three things of these holidays. One of them is the wonderful traditional cuisine of Switzerland called “Raclette”. Its a kind of cheese fondue in a very special way. If you like cheese and a mix up between french und swiss cuisine – these little restaurant in Berlin “Kreuzberg” can give you a very special evening. A Tip: you have to choose the Raclette Royal Version and after main course try the homemade “creme brulee”… Tres Magnifique!

I believe you know the fantastic spanish or portugese tapas you can get in many restaurants round the globe. But if you visit Berlin you have to try the original GERMAN Tapas of a restaurant called “SCHNITZELEI“. If you never tried “Berliner Currywurst”, “Munich Obatzda” or “Königsberger Klopse” you dont have to go in an old tradinional dusty restaurant – you should visit the wonderful Restaurant situated in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

© Schnitzelei

From a choice of 18 different starters you can choose 3, 6 or 9 German Tapas (see above) and after that you have to enjoy a real “Wiener Schnitzel” … not to mix up with the horrible ”Schnitzel Wiener Art” which is differentiate from the original ’cause it is made out of veal. After all the austrian dessert called “Kaiserschmarrn” should find a small place in your stomach. With a good glas of red wine “Montepulciano” you have a perfect meal and on your way to the restroom you can stop for a short match of table football ’cause you have to have a sport session. I think its better for your shape *smile*

Facts: Restaurant Schnitzelei, Röntgenstrasse 7, 10587 Berlin, open Mo-Fr 16:00 – 24:00, Sa-So 12:00 – 24:00, U-Bahn Richard-Wagner-Platz

Well… i know that most of my visitors of my german version www.sheila-wolf.de are english. I can see that in my statistics – and so i try to find time to write an english blog too. Not so often as the german one but a good source to see what happen in the queerest city of germany. I hope to convince other Dragqueens to write for me… and sometimes we have a big community of writing Queers to show how wonderful Berlin can be.

If you plan to visit the capital of Travesty you will find good Restaurants, wonderful Clubs and Bars and the best Parties on that URL.
